Welcome to the World of Seven
So, Genshin Impact is a Chinese RPG by MiHoYo, a massive open world game with lots of locations to explore, quests to complete, and cutscenes to watch. The design is obviously inspired by the Zelda series (not that it’s bad). It’s a 3D open world, with anime-styled characters and sute voicing, and the setting is a postmodernist melting pot of cultures and eras, European and Oriental folklore and fantasy.
The combat system is highly flexible due to choice of characters from the party. You can switch between them in the middle of the fight if one moment you need a sword and then a bow. It also involves many spells and magical perks, as the setting is a postmodern fairytale. The world is inhabited by knights and dragons, gods and fairies, demons and traders, and, in addition, it’s bright and attractive, so you want to spend an extra hour or two there.
Prepare to spend endless hours trying to figure out various spells and weapons, recipes and ingredients, crafting system and combat one. And then another character will join your party, so you need to start again. That’s what makes Genshin Impact so playable. By the way, don’t forget to connect your Facebook, Google, or Apple account to save your progress, because replaying it from the beginning will be dull. Mostly because your progress will require a lot of grinding. Or in-game payments if you want to accelerate it. That’s what made Genshin Impact the highest-grossing game of 2020.
The greatest thing about Genshin Impact, though, is its customization. Even if you don’t buy gacha boxes to enhance your characters, you can customize the voicing of each character, choose which weapons, skills, and abilities to upgrade for each of them. Their appearance remains the same, as the characters are defined by the storyline. The upgrades, though, give them more personality and help you create the Genshin Impact party of your dream.
By the way, “Genshin” is the name of the divine essence that makes gods what they are. Want to try its impact on you? Come on, join, it’s free to play.
Genshin Impact was acclaimed as The Game of the Year by both Apple and Google Play. It has to stand some harder competition on PC and PlayStation, but it creates a great continuum if you often switch between devices. The story is quite dull, and a lot of grinding is involved. But the world of Genshin Impact has enough magic to make you want to return there once in a while.
