Valve’s popular class-based shooter Team Fortress 2 has been around for over a decade, and its fan base remains strong. Recently, new information about the game has come to light thanks to a huge leak that has revealed scrapped weapons and maps.
The leak came courtesy of a TF2 modder by the name of Lord Nazkatt, who had access to game files from as far back as 2010. Among the weapons revealed were a flamethrower and a shield, both of which were never officially released. In addition to the weapons, the leak also included several maps that had been scrapped in the early stages of development.
The flamethrower, if it had been released, would have been a close-range weapon that dealt heavy damage. It would have been similar to the Pyro’s flamethrower but with a larger area of effect. Meanwhile, the shield would have allowed players to block incoming attacks, though its exact mechanics were not revealed.
As for the maps, they ranged from a forest environment to a space-themed map. All of the maps had unique designs and features and would have added some much-needed variety to the game. Unfortunately, none of these maps made it past the early stages of development and were thus scrapped.
The leak of these scrapped weapons and maps is an interesting glimpse into what could have been for Team Fortress 2. It’s possible that some of these weapons and maps could still be added to the game at some point in the future, but for now, players will just have to speculate about what might have been.
