FromSoftware has achieved another remarkable milestone as Armored Core 6, the mech franchise’s long-awaited comeback after a decade dominated by Souls games, reaches 3 million copies sold globally.
Under the title "Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon", the game has crossed the three-million mark in under a year, affirming yet another hit for FromSoftware. Released on August 25 of last year, Armored Core 6 had an impressive debut, marking FromSoftware’s second-largest launch on Steam, bested only by Elden Ring. Just 11 months after its significant release, FromSoftware has proudly announced the game's worldwide sales figures.
The achievement stands as a major triumph for FromSoftware. Revitalizing a cult series that has been around for 27 years was a risky move, especially since many contemporary fans were unfamiliar with it. However, this bold decision has paid off immensely, catapulting the Armored Core series to unprecedented levels. Even loyal Armored Core enthusiasts were taken aback when it became the best-selling game on Steam at release.
Right before the launch, Bandai Namco, the publisher of the Dark Souls series, believed Elden Ring's success would elevate Armored Core 6 to new heights. Evidently, that prediction held true. Selling 25 million copies of a groundbreaking game inevitably draws attention to subsequent releases.
There’s more encouraging news in store for fans. Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently expressed a strong desire to continue developing the Armored Core series, suggesting there’s "still room for improvement." Although Miyazaki didn’t direct Armored Core 6, he held a brief supervisory position and is a dedicated fan of the series.
